Juniper (Juniperus)
Juniper is a coniferous tree or shrub. It is thought to have existed on earth for millions of years. It grows slowly in groups or singly on dry stony slopes in place of degraded woodland and scrub, less commonly in the understory of thinned coniferous and deciduous woodland. Widespread throughout the higher mountains.
Uses : for sand and stones, chronic inflammation in the kidneys and bladder, difficult urination, bad breath, heartburn and pain in the stomach and intestines, rheumatism, gout, urticaria, haemorrhoids, skin rashes, insufficient menstruation. Externally for inhalation in shortness of breath and bronchitis, for baths in eczema.
The fruits are harvested after they ripen, in September-November. It should be borne in mind that the fruits ripen the second year, because of this, the same plant can have both green and ripe fruits.
